Somalia: Justice Minster meets with the administration of central jail

Tuesday, 17 March 2009 SMC     

The Minister of Justice in the current government of national unity of Somalia Abdurahman Farah Janaqow flanked by some members in his Ministry has today visited the Somali central jail in Mogadishu, and met with the officials administrating the central on Tuesday. After his visit at the central jail Mr. Janaqow told spoke to the press.

“I and the administration of the jail discussed about several issues regarding about the maintaining of the jail and how to deal with the inmates who are currently detained in the jail, and we shall review about the cases of the detainees in the jail, and we shall release those who are accused of minor
cases, and those with the major cases would face the verdict according to Islamic law not that they just remain in the cell simply like that” said the Justice Minister in the Somali government Janaqow addressing the press after his first day to the Somali central jail since been appointed as the Justice Minster.

Currently there are number of prisoners who have committed different criminal cases in the central jailed. It was recently when the Somali government has unanimously approved that the Islamic Sharia law would be implemented in the country.
