Somalia Parliament Approves Shirdon as the Prime Minister

In a parliamentary session, the Somali MP’s backed Mr. Abdi Farah Shirdon today with 215 votes today as the new prime minister of the country after he was nominated by the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, on early this month.

The president addressed the parliament and stated the he was confident in the leadership of the prime minister whom he said would rescue the country during this difficult time.

Prime Minister Shirdon also shared with the parliament his vision for the country. "We will address the security issue and restore the law and order in Somalia. I am committed to strengthen the unity among Somalis to ensure we overcome the challenges ahead" said the new prime minister in a speech before the vote.

The new prime minister underscored the need to strengthen the country’s relations with the International Community to continue the recovery efforts in Somalia.

He added, "I am going to form a capable cabinet that will rebuild the economy and fight corruption throughout the government."

مقديشو- 17اكتوبر 2012:- صوت البرلمان الصومالي فى جلسة له صباح اليوم

الاربعاء فى مقره بالعاصمة مقديشو بأغلبية ساحقة لصالح

رئيس الوزراء الجديد عبد فارح شردون وبحضور 215 نائبا من اصل 275 عضوا

وأوضح رئيس الجمهورية حسن شيخ محمود في كلمة ألقاها في جلسة البرلمان قبل

بدء عملية التصويت قال "على انني كلفت عبد فارح رئيسا للوزراء بعد ان

توافرت الشروط المطلوبة عليه وبمشورات عديدة أجرىت مع جميع اطياف

المجتمع الصومالي وان السيد فارح رجل اثق به قادر على تحمل

المسؤولية المنوطة له، يستطيع تشكيل حكومة وحدة وطنية تخرج البلاد عن

هذه المرحلة المتأزمة

ومن جانبه القى رئيس الوزراء الجديد كلمة تناول فيها عدة محاورة

:

البلاد مع محاربة الإرهاب والتطرف، ومكافحة ظاهرة القرصنة المتفشية

فى المنطقة وتعزيز العلاقات الصومالية مع العالم

".

تستطيع تطويرمجال الاقتصاد وتنميه وتحارب الفساد

.

تعيينه لهذا المنصب في السادس من شهر أكتوبر الجاري
