STATEMENT BY U.S. SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR SOMALIA

The United States strongly condemns yesterday’s criminal attack in Mogadishu directed against Somalia’s newly elected President Hassan Sheikh Mahamud.  The assailants were prevented from reaching the President thanks to the courage and professionalism of the Somali Security Services and their AMISOM allies.  Our sincere condolences go out to the families and survivors of those who gave their lives defending Somalia’s new government.  The United States stands firmly with the Somali people in their rejection of terrorism and political violence.
