Video teleconference: President Hassan Sh. Mohamud and Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon

(Mogadishu, September, 27, 2012) The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia H. E Hassan Sh. Mohamud addressed a high level UN Mini-Summit on Somalia, which was chaired by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon. President Mohamud participated through video teleconference from his office in Villa Somalia.

President Hassan Sh. Mohamud began his statement by expressing appreciation to the participants and welcomed the UN Summit on Somalia at this crucial time. The President outlined in his speech, his vision and priorities for the country, these included, stabilization, the rule of law and good governance; economic recovery; peace building and reconciliation; social service delivery; the unity and the integrity of Somalia and improving relations between Somalia and the rest of the world.
President Mohamud emphasized the importance of capable state institutions and reiterated his commitment to the development of Government institutions and capacity building. In this regard, President Mohamud delineated his focus on having effective and accountable state departments.

World leaders at the UN Mini-Summit on Somalia congratulated President Hassan Sh. Mohamud, Somali government and the Somali people for the end of the transition and ensured the support in terms of immediate priorities and long term development and the reconstruction, re-building of the country.

The Summit was attended by leaders from Burundi, China, Denmark, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Norway, Qatar, the Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, Sweden, Turkey, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Yemen, African Union, European Union, and League of Arab States.
Prime Minister Abdiweli Mohamed Ali made the closing remarks.
